Terry Barrett began playing as a teenage solo singer/songwriter as an opening act for acts like Peter Frampton, Bo Diddly, Todd Rundgren and others. His interest in reggae and afrobeat music began in the 1980's when his group "The Bangorillas" had a popular ska tune played throughout the college radio circuit around the country. They also opened for acts like UB40, The Ramones, Jon Bon Jovi, Badfinger and more. The Terry Barrett Band began in 1997 and has had various members.
